Day 12: San Francisco
Good morning Everyone! This morning we awoke at 7:00, many
of our campers have adjusted to waking ourselves up over the last 12 days. As
we started the short drive to Fisherman’s Warf in San Fran, we had a traveling
breakfast of not one but two Poptarts of assorted flavors.
Before we
reached our destination, we took a detour to the Painted Ladies. We all enjoyed
this because it brought back childhood memories of watching Full House. Once we
reached Fishermans Warf, campers presented their research from Las Vegas up
until today in San Francisco. The fog started rolling in during the
presentations, but we managed to see some seals in the mean time.
We
relocated due to the chilliness, and afterwards we were released into separate
groups. Some of us went to local coffee shops for a boost of energy, hometown
donut shops (a.k.a Krispy Krème), yummy clam chowder in a bread bowl that is local to the area, and others ate an early lunch at In-N-Out
We then
ventured out to explore our new favorite city! Shopping at the Warf Store, and
other discount gift shops for amazing gifts for those of you back home.
Sweatshirts were a favorite at this location because one they were cheap, and
two we love a good sweatshirt on TWB.
Another
famous TWB tradition, is trying Clam Chowder at local seafood restaurants. Even
for those who don’t typically eat seafood, they loved it! But if our campers
weren’t interested, they had amazing bread at the Bread factory, along with a
brownie or two.
We headed
to China Town to explore the culture and shops. We were able to buy discounted
gifts and knock off items. We also visited the Fortune Cookie Factory for a
light snack. After some more shopping, we were excited to eat some authentic
Chinese food. Our meals were pre-planned by our staff, and we were very
thankful for a filling meal!
During our
last hour on our own, a lot of members took time to see more of Chinatown or
venture for an apple store once again. After leaving the city, we went for our
last adventure of the day. Craig dropped us off at the Golden Gate Bridge and
campers ran to start their trek across the beautiful and famous landmark. Some
even participated in the Polar Bear Challenge, in which campers had the option
to see if they could make it across the bridge shirtless (for guys) or in a
sports bra (for girls).
After the
bridge we came back to our temporary home at the church to enjoy our clean
laundry, take showers, and make sure our jobs are completed. With tonight being
the last day on our current shifts, there is a lot to do. Unfortunately, this
also means that this is the last blog from the Sleepy group. We’ve had fun writing to you guys! With love,
