Day 3- San Antonio

Day 3: San Antonio

We started our day off at 4:30 in the morning after a good nights sleep in Louisiana. Our participants were very excited to sleep in real beds for the night and it was definitely a better nights sleep than the first night. All of us set our stuff down in front of the bus after getting ready for the morning and the bus packers went to work loading the buses. We got ready in 30 minutes! Josh said that was pretty good for it being one of the first days on TWB. We are rewarded with 15 extra minutes of sleep tomorrow J. All participants pretty much slept for the first 2 hours on the bus before our first pit stop. When we got there and the bathrooms ended up being closed so we headed down to the Pilot just a little ways down the road. Josh made sure we knew that we weren’t supposed to buy anything but our bus driver, Craig, was the only exception. So we waited for him to get his fried chicken next door and then we were on our way! We then got breakfast, some delicious Pop Tarts and clementines provided by the Happys. We drove about 2 more hours and headed to the Flying J’s so that we could fuel up the bus and the vans. This time us participants were able to grab some food. Most stuck with sodas and candy bars but some decided to get some slices of pizza! After that little pit stop we continued our journey into Texas on our way to San Antonio.  Our bus ride consisted of making bracelets, singing songs, and games including Never Have I Ever and What Are the Odds. When we arrived in San Antonio, we first visited the Alamo. Getting there was an adventure; Lauren and Brandon both missed more than one exit on the highway. After exploring the Alamo and the River Walk and taking about 500 photos, we all split up and went our separate ways. Some went to shop in the various stores along the river as others had their first restaurant meal in awhile. While Brandon was waiting in line to buy one last thing, he asked the girl in front of him what her name was as though she was on the trip. She answered, so he still thought she was a participant until her dad (who was twice as big a Brandon) came up and then we realized she was not on the trip, it was pretty hilarious! All too soon we headed back to the Alamo with many a shirt, sticker, and postcard and loaded the bus and vans. As we headed to Schreiner University, we all admired the Texas scenery and the large houses on huge plots of land (because everything is bigger in Texas). Participants wrote in their journals and postcards to send home to loved ones, so watch your mailboxes! The people on the bus also rolled clementines down the aisle as entertainment and didn’t make a huge mess, much to director Josh’s surprise. Schreiner welcomed us with open arms in the form of summer interns Andrew and Allen who told us about college life at the university.  We gathered to talk about the trip so far and the “little” hike that we are going to do in a few days.  While we were talking, Sam let out a fart and the room went quiet and then burst out into laughter.  The room cheered because he was the first one to fart in front of the group. We bed down in the gym tonight and have a few new challenges awaiting us: Group showering and the boys playing basketball (hopefully not all night). Tomorrow a new group takes over the blog, so for the final time on TWB 2019…
