After the Trip! TWB Reflections

TWB Reflections!

Coming into this trip, we had all heard from past participants how this was going to be the best 23 days of our lives. However, many of us – especially those who had never been camping before – were unsure if this was going to be true. Many of us came into this trip knowing few or no other people and many of us were nervous to leave the comfort of our homes for three weeks straight without our cell phones. Especially throughout the first five days, we were thinking “what have we gotten ourselves into” and a lot of us were homesick. However, after a week, we started to feel better about the trip. We made friends with 81 new people and we were with the most amazing counselors we could have hoped for. Now that the trip has come to a close, we can see just how much we’ve grown as people but more importantly, how we’ve grown as friends. Although most of us are excited to have a private shower again and not have to wait for seconds on food, we are all going to miss this trip because we know it will never be this way again. Never again will all 82 of us be together in the same place and because of that, we know this goodbye will be a bittersweet one. Looking back, I wouldn’t change any of the hardships we’ve endured on this trip for anything. We have a new family now who will always be there for us and for that, we thank our counselors and most importantly, God. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in sending 82 teenagers across America. This truly has been the trip of a lifetime and the best 23 days of our lives.

Day 23- Return

Day 23- Return

Well this is the final day of the Teens Westward Bound 2019 Trip 1! This has most definitely been a journey of a lifetime. This morning we woke up at 6:30 to pack up for the last time. The staff played peculiar animal sounds to wake us up. The morning dew took us by surprise so none of us woke up dry. Good luck with the laundry parents! Also, good luck with dealing with us since half of us didn’t go to sleep last night. We loaded up and we went to our first stop of the day, the last Walmart stop. Most people got pastries and energy drinks while the cooks shopped for our breakfast and lunch. We loaded up around 30 minutes later. The cooks served us mini muffins and Go-Gurts for breakfast. Since the staff refused to let us sleep anymore we listened to lots of Disney, country, and clean rap music to keep us entertained for the ride. We all talked to each other and danced through the aisles one last time. At our next stop, everyone darted off the vehicles straight to the bathrooms to relive ourselves! We quickly got back on and headed across the Tennessee- NC line.  As our hearts became heavy and the lumps came into our throats the cooks cheered us up with our final meal. For the last hoorah we were served turkey and cheese sandwiches with Cheez-Itz, pretzels, and cookies. We made it to our final stop at Sheetz once we got to Mooresville. We darted off the vehicles to relieve ourselves once again. After the bus cleaners cleaned off the vehicles we headed to a church nearby to pass out our gift bags and get everything organized before we left for Mallard Creek to see our loved ones. Everyone had a bittersweet feeling as we said our final “see ya laters” because this is not a goodbye. And for one last time… Grumpys out! Thank you Teens Westward Bound for all of these amazing memories. This experience has touched us all.

We got to sleep until breakfast and then we stayed up the rest of the drive so we could enjoy our last little bit all together...here's some funny sleeping pictures for the last time
