Welcome to day 1!!! We have the most lit director of TWB this summer, Josh. Today we started off at Mallard Creek church for send off at 9:00 am. After listening to Grant and Dennis, we hugged our loved ones goodbye… but more importantly our cell phones. We boarded our assigned vehicles and set out on our journey across the good ol’ US of A. When we embarked on our journey, we instantly started to mingle with our new best friends. Once we got into South Carolina, we stopped at a rest stop and took a bathroom break and filled up our water bottles. Hydration is key. We got back on the bus and after about 15 minutes we ate lunch. It was a gourmet meal composed of Walmart brand processed cheese and an unknown turkey/ham mixture cold cuts and chips, for the people with dietary restrictions they were given meals to fit their needs. Some of our lucky participants won the sandwich lottery and ended up with a mouthful of plastic from the cheese. We then got dessert!! Vanilla Walmart cookies and let me tell you, they were much needed. During a game of What Are The Odds on the bus, Brandon was asked, “what are the odds you will drink a mouthful of mayonnaise.” He lost that one. When he had the mouthful of mayonnaise he made a face of disgust and gagged. A game of speed dating was started to get to know each other, and it was a great ice breaker! We then entered Georgia and we stopped at Flying J’s.  TWB’s favorite rest stop!  They accommodated to the girls bathroom needs very well by opening up extra bathrooms and were very generous. We left and kept on driving…surprise.  As soon as we arrived to the town of LaGrange we stopped at the one and only Walmart.  Our cooks gathered everything to cook for our first night while the rest of us shopped for watches, since we don’t have our phones. Then we made it to LaGrange College and made our final stop of the day. We listened to the wonderful research of Sam Shepard and Hannah Rock. They gave some good insight into the background of LaGrange and how it has evolved through the years. After the research, the admissions director gave us some more details about the college, making it sound pretty good. We then dispersed and met with our group leaders, the Bashful’s being Lauren, she’s pretty awesome if we do say so ourselves. The Dopey’s then unpacked the bus for everyone and we all grabbed our stuff and picked our spots for the night. Multiple groups of people set up three enos on top of each other and some are at least eight feet off the ground…we’ll see how that works out. Before we could eat, the groups were battling against each other to eat first. Each group had to make a human pyramid and whoever got their members stacked first got to eat first.  Sleepy were the lucky ones tonight! The Happy’s made us a very delicious hamburger dinner! We had sliced watermelon and chips too J
After dinner, we engaged in some very serious relays. The first relay consisted of a tunnel, each Dwarf team had to crawl under each others legs to the other side. It was TWB’s version of a conga line. The winners were the Happy’s. The second relay was the Harry Potter relay. Each member had to put a golf club in between their legs and run back and forth without using their hands. The winners were the Sneezy’s.  The final relay was the most strenuous. Two people had to go at the same time and only one of them could touch the ground. As expected, people were dropped. With a very close finish, the winners were the Happy’s. After the relays we all settled down around the gazebo and sang some campfire songs.  The first sing a long of the trip is always a special one.  We sang This Land, Sweet Home Alabama, Lean On Me, and Today. IT was a wonderful ending to a wonderful day. Excited for future memories!
Signing off for the day is the Bashful’s!!! <3
