Day 10: LA and Hollywood
Hi everyone! It’s the Sleepy’s once again. Today we woke up
and took a ride towards Hollywood Blvd. This morning we had a delicious
breakfast that contained a nutragrain bar and an apple, yummy. We unloaded the bus at the Hollywood bowl,
took a picture, and had screaming auditions; this will be explained later in
the blog. But congratulations to Acerah, Gracie, and Katie for being the best
screamers on TWB ’19 trip 1. After
viewing a few stars and matching our footprints with the celebrities, we
decided we wanted the area to ourselves (this is where the screaming auditions
come into play). We had one of our camp
staff members, Gray Heath, pretend to be famous. The screamers started us off
and then we all started screaming and yelling and asking for autographs and
were so believable that we had strangers lining up to take pictures with our
own TWB counselor. When the crowd cleared we were able to take a picture in
front of the Chinese Theatre. Then we split up into groups and explored the
unique shops and got some coffee to wake us all up.
Next, we
headed down Sunset Boulevard and saw the breathtaking houses and cars. We saw
homes that belonged to celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Matthew McConaughey,
Orlando Bloom and Halle Berry. Our next stop we headed to UCLA for a picnic
where the cooks served us subs and chips. In UCLA, people spent their time
getting UCLA college gear in the gift shop, contacting home on the gift shop
computers, and touring the campus. Some of the gift shop purchases included
matching tank tops, sweatshirts, hats, ect. We were lucky to catch a 33% off
sale in front of the store with makeup, clothing, and action figures. Also in
the gift shop, many members crowded round to get in touch with their loved ones
back home. Although a lot of campers had trouble logging into their accounts,
some made successful calls home and everyone who tried was successful in
sending emails, so remember to check those old email accounts! Some even
managed to check their social media for a quick minute to check on things back
home. Around campus people visited an
athletic museum, the UCLA soccer field, and a statue of the famous UCLA Bruin.
On our way
to the campsite, we caught up on some sleep most of the way, but when we got
closer, Grant came over the bus speakers to wake us all up for a surprise. He
told us to look to our left and to our right. To the right of us there was
beautiful grassy mountains, and to the left there was the Pacific ocean in all
of it’s beauty. Everyone was so amazed by the beauty, and this was just a sneak
peak of what our whole ride up highway 1 will be like tomorrow!
We finally
arrived at our home for the night. The view is breath taking. We are right on
the ocean! We can literally walk on the beaches, and then walk right up to our
sleeping bags! When we arrived to the
campsite we laid out our sleeping bags and explored the area. Some groups played ninja, some walked down
to the beach, played football, and Brandon even taught us a line dance. The cooks made a veggie and chicken stir fry that was pretty good.
The view we have tonight will hopefully make up for the dew
that will cover us head to toe tomorrow J.
